Full description
Starting from piazza Duomo, where you can take pictures with the symbol of Catania ” U liottru“ (the elephant), we’ll visit the huge Cathedral, dedicated to Sant’Agata. From here you will head to the quaint fish market, better known as “la pescheria”, where we’ll make the first stop of our Catania street food tour: “il cono di fritto”, some delicious fresh fried fish.
The atmosphere you’ll live in this wonderful place will be unique. Going deep in the fish market, we’ll stop for the second time: tasting “pistacchio”, the typical Sicilian dry fruit, a “must” for the local kitchen tradition. After that, we will enjoy a lovely walking tour to have an historical overview of the city, of the alleys and the squares of the old town.
The third stop of our tour is the view from the outside of the Castello Ursino, a fortress built between 1239 and 1250 by the architect Riccardo da Lentini and wanted by Frederick II of Swabia.
Here, you will enjoy a tasting of typical drink: the “seltz limone e sale” or “mandarinetto”, special beverage made by fresh fruits and sugar or salt, very regenerating…
We’ll continue our visit discovering the richness of baroque architecture, and we’ll end our tour in the magnificent Piazza Università.
