The hike to the summit of Mount Etna starts from an altitude of 2900 meters that is reached with cable car and 4×4 buses called Unimog.

For this visit you will have several options available : you can choose the transfer service from your accommodation or you can reach our meeting point by car or yet to meet the guide directly at the Rifugio Sapienza, Etna south ski resort.

The guide will take care of all ticketing allowing you to skip the line and reach 2500 mt with the cable car. The ascent continue with the special Unimog vehicles to an area known as “Torre del Filosofo” at about 2920 mt.

The hike towards the summit starts with an easy stroll over the latest lava flows of Etna reaching the base of the active craters where the trail become more strenuous.

Currently there are four active vents at the top, the permanence in the summit area will be determined according to weather and volcanic activity conditions.

While descending towards the cable car station you will have a fun downhill on volcanic ash, a picnic lunch is planned in the middle of the volcanic fields, the visit of a long lava channel equipped with helmet, the guide will show you some of Etna’s flank craters and the large caldera called Valle del Bove with an astonishing view of the sea coast from Taormina to Catania.
